Research Mentoring Certificate - FALL 2025

The purpose of the ARED Research Mentoring Certificate is to increase high-quality research mentoring. The certificate involves six classes presented in Canvas course format, accompanied by (5) five live meetings held via Zoom.

Cohort Description: The purpose of the ARED Research Mentoring Certificate is to increase high-quality research mentoring.  The certificate involves six classes presented in Canvas course format, accompanied by (6) six live meetings held via Zoom.

These meetings use case studies to demonstrate issues that may arise in mentor-mentee relationships and are intended to facilitate conversation and provide an opportunity for participants to work through problems collaboratively. Topics covered in the online classes and the case studies are organized around core mentor training competencies grounded in academic research (e.g. Pfund et al. 2013) and modified based on participant feedback and facilitator expertise. These competencies include: 

 

  • ARED 1710 | Introduction to Research Mentoring
  • ARED 1711 | Establishing Expections and Maintaining Effective Communication
  • ARED 1712 | Assessing Understanding and Fostering Independence
  • ARED 1713 | Fostering Academic Literacies
  • ARED 1714 | Research and Mentoring Ethics
  • ARED 1715 | Promoting Mentees' Professional Development
 

Length: 6 Weeks

Time Commitment: 10 - 15 hours
